388

Leading up to May Commencement, we’re asking some of our graduates to tell us about their experience as Greyhounds and where their journey will lead them next. Meet May 2023 graduate Elise Tally who will receive a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with minors in Teaching English Language Learners, and Franco-Germanic Studies and concentrations in Reading and STEM at the end of this semester!

Why did you choose to study Elementary Education?

I love seeing the light in my students’ eyes when they learn something new and gain new passions in life.

Why did you choose to study at UIndy?

The community that UIndy fosters made me fall in love with it. Everyone was so involved and able to convey their love for their passions in such an extravagant way.

Are you a part of any extracurriculars (either on or off campus)? If so, what are they and what is your role?

I have been the President of Kappa Delta Pi for two years, a Greyhound Ambassador Mentor for four years, and a Resident Assistant (RA) for one year.

What is one of your favorite memories from your time at UIndy?

My favorite memory was going to a UIndy Pride meeting and becoming fast friends with someone else who influenced my entire senior year by simply playing Settlers of Catan.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to move back home and become a 3-5 teacher or 6-12 Mathematics teacher.

How did your degree program prepare you for your next steps?

I was able to gain my teaching license through the program and was guided to get a secondary education add on to my license.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

Get involved in your first few months, even if it’s scary.
