For National Transfer Student Week, we asked current transfer students about the transfer process and their UIndy experience.
Victoria Marshall ’26 is majoring in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. She is a first-generation college student and attended Ivy Tech before transferring to UIndy.
What inspired you to study psychology?
Going to Ivy Tech and taking psychology really inspired me. Learning about the brain and how it works really changed how I thought of day-to-day life.
Why did you choose to transfer to UIndy?
UIndy felt more like home than the other options I looked at. The classes are smaller, which made it easier to get to know the people and the professors.
UIndy is a smaller campus, which helps students out tremendously. You get to know your class better, and the professors remember you (which looks good for a letter of recommendation), and you get to be more hands-on in class.
How would you describe the UIndy transfer process?
The transfer process was very simple. I had people from all directions guiding me on my next steps.
Were there any challenges you faced while transferring, and how did you overcome them?
The only challenge I faced while transferring was making new friends. I easily overcame that by going to campus activities and meeting new people.
How has your experience on campus been so far?
My experience on campus has been amazing. I enjoy the support that UIndy offers and the clubs you can join.
Is there a professor, advisor, or staff member who has made an impact on your UIndy experience? How so?
Professor Holly Sims-Bruno has made a huge impact on my UIndy experience. She is always there to help students, no matter what. She has different times where past and present students can meet with her and just talk.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is the fountain between Greyhound Village and Cory Bretz Hall. It’s a great place to think and relax.
Can you share a memorable moment or experience you’ve had since transferring?
A memorable moment I’ve had since transferring is probably going to the football games and taking pictures with Grady the Greyhound.
What advice would you give to other students who may be considering transferring to UIndy?
Some advice to other students who may be considering transferring to UIndy is not to be scared of change and to be prepared to be well-connected.
